about

Here we present a collection of recordings from a selection of artists that first featured on the Foundation's "Around the World in 80 Plays" Project. For the last five years, musicians around the globe have been saluting the legendary guitarist and singer song-writer Bert Jansch, playing a Transacoustic guitar from Bert's favoured LL series from Yamaha and revealing how they have been inspired by his music.

Carving a financially viable career as a musician is harder than ever with streaming services paying pittance and live venues closing. All proceeds from album sales will go directly to the Foundation and further its aim in supporting  young acoustic musicians with educational and early career opportunities.

It has been wonderful to see many of the artists collaborating and touring together since meeting through 80 Plays, it connected us throughout the bleak lockdowns and the common threads found in that time remain. Many of the performances found in the original project were brilliant original pieces along with fresh takes on Bert's repertoire. Sam Grassie proposed that these pieces could form an album and is thrilled many of the artists have agreed to share their work on this platform, in aid of the charity. Special thanks also goes to Mike Walker from Renbourn Guitar workshops for mastering many of the tracks and elevating the recording quality.

We are delighted to have players of all ages featuring on the compilation with some artists taking the time to record new pieces in professional studios. The range of styles is inspiring, there are raw blues instrumentals, sweeping jigs, full band numbers & ethereal vocals. Each track has a little bit of Bert in there, sometimes taken to somewhere new, we hope you enjoy it.
